A few years ago I met him at a scientific manifestation on Dr. Ferdinand Bauer. A renowned radiologist in Germany through his good grace and extraordinary tenacity has taken his time or to come countless times to our surgical manifestations. All this effort is due to his desire to implement in Romania the modern stadialization protocols, mainly of rectum cancer, with the help of performance imaging.
There is no major surgical collective in Romania that does not consider him a real professional and especially a true friend. It all culminated in 2017 when Dr. Ferdinand Bauer decided to organise a symposium dedicated to Rectal cancer at the fresh property of his reign in Palkonya, Hungary. Everything seemed fantastic, a Romanian-Hungarian-German, graduate of Romania, radiologist in Germany with a winery purchased in Hungary organizes a symposium of rectal cancer in Romanian, inviting numerous scientific personalities from the country.
These were the auspices through which during 14-16 September 2017 the first symposium devoted to rectal cancer was held at Palkonya. The organization was impeccable, the works were carried out in a relaxed atmosphere. The program was extremely interesting and comprised the entire area of diagnosis, stadialization and multimodal treatment of rectal cancer. From Endocavitary Ultrasound to nuclear magnetic resonance in the stadialization of rectum cancer to the modern therapeutic options existing and ending with complications after rectal surgery. The presentations have been to a high scientific value. If I spoke about the scientific quality of the symposium I must emphasise and congratulate Dr. Ferdinand Bauer on the special organization of the social program that included the visit of the historic centre of Pecs, the wine tasting at the winery Bock and the special nights spent on the terrace of Bauer’s residence.
Since the first edition of the symposium dedicated to rectal cancer I have remained with a lot of unforgettable memories related to organizing, hospitality and especially friendship.
Thank you Dr. Ferdinand Bauer
